Mulanay Watershed Forest Reserve

The Mulanay Watershed Forest Reserve (MWFR), situated in Barangay Cawayan II, San Francisco, Quezon boasts of rich and abundant forest vegetation and wildlife. Aside from vast grasslands and over 30 indigenous plant species, present in the area are endemic birds, mammals and reptiles.

Not only is it home to flora and fauna but it is also a source of life for nearby communities. Its two existing creeks, the Cawayan Creek and the Apayao Creek, flows from the old growth forest to adjacent farmlands and drains towards the Tayabas Bay. Springs in the MWFR are also a source of potable water and are being used for domestic, industrial and agricultural consumption by the communities in San Francisco, Quezon.

The Park is included as priority protected area for biodiversity conservation under the classification of Insufficient Data (ID) based on the results of the National Biodiversity Conservation Priority Setting Project jointly undertaken by the DENR-PAWB, UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies, and Conservation International-Philippines.

It is also identified as a candidate Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) being located in the Bondoc Peninsula.
