DENR-PENRO Romblon conducted Environmental Exhibit at School’s Covered Court of Odiongan National High School (ONHS), Brgy. Dapawan Odiongan, Romblon on October 17, 2016. This activity is in line with the continuous Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign of DENR in developing environmental awareness to the stakeholders. The environmental exhibit emphasize the importance of Biodiversity which some of its pictures were posted to the different corners of the covered court. Endanger and endemic species of the Province were also presented for their information. The methodology introduced is inter-active through a participatory approach for the students to respond in the particular issues pertaining to environmental awareness program of the DENR. This requires developing a sense of responsibility, commitment and awareness to protect the remaining natural habitat including the flora and fauna in the Province of Romblon. This activity is a strategy to encourage the Odiongan National High School (ONHS) to be a co-partner in the implementation of plans and programs participated by 125 students including teachers and staff.


            With the usual preliminaries, the opening program started at 8:00 in the morning hosted by DENR Information Officer Eunice May F. Abello. In behalf of the School principal, a welcome remark was delivered by Mr. Crusaldo F. Fetalver, Officer in Charge and Head Teacher IV of Mathematics Department. In his message, he encourage the students as well as the teachers and staff to participate in the activity to gain understanding in the current environmental situation. This was followed by an inspirational message of OIC, PENR Officer Maximo C. Landrito who gave a deep emphasison what the youth can contribute in the protection of remaining natural resources. An Overview of the activity was discussed by Supervising EcoMS Gerardo B. Sabigan, giving also background on the Province Pride: the MT. Guiting-Guiting Natural Park and CALSANAG Watershed Forest Reserve. He also proceeded to the lectures on the Importance of Biodiversity, National Greening Program (NGP) and Mangrove and Beach Forest Development Project (MBFDP).  Environmental Videos were also presented after the discussion and the last was the encouraging message of EcoMS II Raymund G. Inocencio to the students of ONHS. The environmental exhibit formally opened to the participants, giving opportunities to everyone to take photos to the displayed environmental pictures. The DENR personnel also distributed IEC materials to the teachers, staff and students.
